This review will help you understand if the Avène Cleanance Mat Mattifying Emulsion is what your skin is craving. Let’s find you a new moisturizer!
Hello! Today I want to tell you about a moisturizer that has become a regular part of my morning routines. It is intended, preferably, for combination or oily skin, do you want to know my experience using it? Keep reading!
BRAND: EAU THERMALE AVÈNE
PRODUCT: CLEANANCE MAT MATTIFYING EMULSION
SKIN TYPE: PREFERRABLY COMBINATION OR OILY SKIN
RECOMMENDED FOR: UNISEX
Avène is probably one of the best known cosmetic brands. Although the laboratory was born in 1990, the history of its thermal water (one of the iconic elements of this brand) dates back to the first half of the 18th century. Although I have used their products on more than one occasion, today I want to talk to you in detail about this moisturizer, which I have been using constantly for several months and that you surely want to know a little better.
As I explained in my article about the different types of ingredients that we can find in our moisturizer, it is important to find a product that meets our skincare needs to achieve an effective result, avoiding transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and maintaining the balance of our hydrolipidic barrier.
In this case, Avène have developed a moisturizer designed, in principle, to help combination and oily skin. Among its ingredients we find various basic emollients, such as glycerin or dimethicone, and a component that does make it interesting for those of us with combination skin: salicylic acid (a chemical exfoliant that you can read more about here). This moisturizer contains perfumes among its ingredients.
Not surprisingly, the most important thing a moisturizer should do is effectively hydrate. To achieve this, you may use different types of ingredients, but the key is to provide our skin with the necessary water (or prevent it from evaporating). In this case, I have observed that the cream provides correct hydration, and I prefer it for my morning routines, but you can also use it in your night routines without problem. On the other hand, the salicylic acid that it incorporates among its ingredients can help us due to its sebum-regulating properties, which is why the brand recommends using this product for those of us who have combination or oily skin.
And how is the texture of this moisturizer? The brand describes it as a mattifying emulsion, although it would be more accurate for me to identify it as a moisturizing gel. It applies and spreads wonderfully, absorbing quickly and comfortably. It is very light, so, as I mentioned before, it seems to me a more suitable product for AM routines.
Regarding the results, I cannot say that I have observed that it mattifies my skin (although this is not my main priority either). Even though it hydrates adequately, it is not exactly what I am looking for, since I prefer products that do not just provide emollients to my skin, but rather have some other function that better suits its needs.
If you are looking for a basic and light moisturizer, this product may be the right one for you, but if you are looking for something more nourishing, I advise you to try some of the others you can find in this section.
HOW TO USE:
You already know that moisturizer is key to keep our skin balanced, so it is an essential part of your basic skincare routine. Apply it after cleansing, toning and serums, if you use it in your morning routines, remember that it is fundamental to apply sunscreen next. It is a very effective product, so you do not need more than the equivalent amount of a pea.
This graphic aims to help you understand in which part of your skincare routine you should use each product.
You don’t need to do all the steps from this routine (but you should always cleanse, moisturize and use sunscreen).
Remember it’s key to do a patch test every time you consider adding new products to your skincare routine.
