REVIEW: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC

Cabecera The Moisturizer - Review: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC
Are you worried about dark circles? A good eye contour can help you reduce dark circles, minimizing pigmentation and inflammation. On today’s review I’ll share my experience with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC, an amazing serum that has become many people’s favorite. Let’s see if it’s the new addition to your skincare routines!

Hello! How are you? How’s your week going? Today I bring you my opinion of the eye contour The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC. I bought it a little over a month ago and since then I’ve been hooked on it, I’m delighted. Do you want to know a little more? Let’s go!

BRAND: THE ORDINARY
PRODUCT: CAFFEINE SOLUTION 5% + ECGC
SKIN TYPE: ALL
RECOMMENDED FOR: UNISEX

You can get The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGC on DECIEM (recommended), on Amazon, on SkinStore and on FeelUnique.

I already spoke to you in other posts (like this review and this one, among many other) of other DECIEM products and, more specifically, of The Ordinary, perhaps its most popular and economic brand. Their products are designed to provide extra nutrition to our skin without incurring excessive expense.

When applying the eye contour we can see that the product has a light yellow color and a rather light, a little oily liquid texture. I apply a single drop for both eyes, at the bone below the lower eyelid, and with that amount it’s enough for me. When extended, a slightly shiny film remains on the skin for a few seconds, but it is quickly absorbed. Unlike other contours with a roll-on applicator, it does not leave a feeling of freshness when applied, and I’ve missed it a bit, since I was used to feeling that revitalizing cold. However, I have noticed when I used it that the pigmentation of dark circles has reduced considerably and that my look has a healthier appearance.

This eye contour contains, among other ingredients, caffeine (with important antioxidant properties, to help prevent dark circles and the signs of aging), hyaluronic acid (to keep the skin well hydrated) and lactic acid (which helps maintain a uniform skin tone). This eye contour does not contain any fragrances.

If you are curious as I am you will be asking: what on Earth is ECGC? As I have been investigating around The Ordinary’s own website, it’s an acronym for epigallocatechin gallate glycoside. What? Epigallocatechin gallate glycoside, of course. Long story short: it is a powerful antioxidant that is obtained from green tea and that has various properties. In this case, it helps reduce signs of fatigue and damage caused by radiation, cold, pollution, etc.

The packaging follows the usual aesthetic line of The Ordinary and DECIEM. The box is made of white cardboard with details in gray tones and texts in black. When we open it we find a dark colored glass container (due to the ultraviolet protection that prevents the products, very fragile given the complexity of their composition, from being damaged if it gives them sunlight). The product dispenser is dropper type, like most of the brand, which makes it much easier to take the right amount of product and thus not waste it.

I’m very happy with this eye contour. This eye contour of The Ordinary has given me an excellent result, it gives me the sensation of having a more lively and rejuvenated look, reducing the darkness of the circles and giving me a much better look. You already know that the look has a fundamental role in our image, it can make the difference between seeing us radiant or exhausted. Of course, I will buy this eye contour again when I’m finished (although I hope that day takes long to arrive).

HOW TO USE:

I know I should use the eye contour in my morning and evening beauty routines, although I usually only use it in the mornings. To use it properly we must do it at the end of the routine, after cleansing, toning, and applying your serum. Be sure to end up your routine with a nice moisturizer and, if it’s your AM routine, a good sunscreen like the ones from this comparison. To apply it, we should tap the area above the bone under your eyes. Start from the inside of the eyes and proceed towards the outside of the eye contour area.

This graphic aims to help you understand in which part of your skincare routine you should use each product.
You don’t need to do all the steps from this routine (but you should always cleanse, moisturize and use sunscreen).
Remember it’s key to do a patch test every time you consider adding new products to your skincare routine.

Hiya, I’ve just added the caffeine solution to my skincare routine and this was exactly the kind of advice I’ve been looking for! I’m just wondering – would you recommend applying it before or after the Ordinary HA 2% serum? Thanks!

      Hi Katy, welcome! 😊

I would advise you to start using it after your hyaluronic acid serum, since that one is water-based, unlike the caffeine solution. Keep in mind that I usually include a graphic in my reviews (right after the how to use section) where you can see the order in which skincare products should be applied 😉

Hi Nacho! I just discovered your blog and am really enjoying it. I have been applying the caffeine solution under and around my eyes. Is that okay, or should I only apply it above my eyes/under the eyelid? Thank you in advance for your thoughts. 🙂

Hi there Holly, welcome to my blog! 😊

The ideal way to apply this product is taking the bone under your eye as a reference. You should tap it from the inside and proceed towards the outside of the eye contour area.

      Have a wonderful day,
      Nacho.

So you apply it after the moisturizer?
I usually do it before the HA serum. Then put the HA on the face, including eye area and only then the moisturizer + SPF.
